Garage Rebuilt After a Water-Heater Leak

The water ran for about two days before it was noticed. We handled the wall restoration from exposed framing through finished paint.

What the project required

The leak left the garage walls exposed and created a larger restoration job than a cosmetic patch. After the wet materials were removed and the area was ready to rebuild, the wall surfaces received stain-blocking primer. Insulation was added where the walls had none, then new drywall was installed, taped, finished and prepared for paint.

1. PrepareProtect the space and address the damaged wall surfaces.
2. RebuildAdd insulation, install drywall and finish the seams.
3. CompletePrime, paint walls and ceiling, paint trim, and clean the room.

Why this matters after a leak

Painting alone cannot correct soft drywall, open wall cavities or stains that can bleed back through. The repair has to move in the right order: dry and remove damaged material, rebuild the wall, block remaining stains, finish the drywall, then paint.
